China President Xi Jinping praised Yiwu while he was meeting Rajoy, Prime Minister of Spain, who came to China to attend the Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation, in the Great Hall of the People. That was the fifth time that Xi Jinping gave thumbs up to Yiwu on important international communication occasions in recent 3 years.

According to the news of Xinhua News Agency, during the meeting with Rajoy, Xi Jinping stressed that depending on its special advantages of geographical location, Spain could play a significant role in the expansion of the "Belt and Road". The opening and operation of Sino-Europe trains from Yiwu to Madrid built an important interconnecting bridge on Eurasia and could be rated as an early achievement in the construction of "Belt and Road". Both parties should exert their respective advantages and establish practical cooperation in multiple fields to realize mutual benefit and win-win development.

Rajoy expressed that the Spain-China relationship was showing a good development momentum, the two countries had witnessed close exchanges between their top leaders, and the economic and trade cooperation had yielded fruitful results. Spain thought highly of the "Belt and Road" Initiative and believed that it would exert important influence on the economic and cultural exchanges among regions along the Road and create a broader space for Spain-China cooperation. Spain was willing to enhance the cooperation with China in the domains like trade investment, infrastructure, and culture and positively promote the deepening of EU-China relationship.
